Ultrafast Broad Brand

Superstar sportsman Stuart Broad is undeniably one of England cricket’s greatest ever players. Four Ashes wins, a T20 World Cup title and more than 400 Test wickets – all taken over ten years at the top – speaks not only of his skill but also of the man’s stamina.

Recognised for his standing in his sport with a testimonial year in 2019, STENCIL were approached to create a logo that represented the man, his achievements and his public appeal.

The studio presented two ideas to client, the first representing the timelessness of the 31-year-old as a cricketer. The second a more instantly modern take. The process saw the present win out.

Stimulus came in the form of a line drawing that captured Broad’s most iconic moment as a player, taken from an instantly recognisable photograph from a career-defining performance. The design challenge set was then one of how to represent the image of an incredulous Broad, hands hiding the face, in the minimum number of marks. In essence, creating an icon fit for an icon.

With a full suite of print and digital comms to follow, the Nottinghamshire star looks set for a great 12 months of fundraising in support of his chosen charities The Motor Neurone Disease Association and Trent Bridge Community Trust.
