In A Big Country
The brief – to build a digital platform and shape the identity of this enigmatic Victorian retreat in the Scottish Highlands.
The groundwork saw STENCIL’s Sam Bowles undertake a ‘thistle stop’ trip North. Capturing its almost endlessly-moving seasonality was the main challenge in defining the place as a visual identity. A palate of heather-reds, mountain-greys and wind-parched-yellows ended up covering the most ground visually.
With imagery in the can, the written identity was then needed to fill in any gaps. The trick was always going to be how to capture the romance of the place and evoke its sense of history, unspoilt natural beauty and scale. This copy deployed as our – ‘opening sequence’ – underpins that brand story…
OF LEGEND NOT MYTH.
OF BONNIE PRINCE CHARLIE.
OF CLAN. OF KILT. AND KIN.
OF HEATHER AND STREAM.
AND SKIES TOO VAST TO BE TAKEN IN.
The digital build allowed all elements of this Phase 1 development to find that harmony. With infrastructure in place to expand the website as and when more and more elements come on stream, the project looks an open-ended brief.
